There’s a to explore in Ocotillo Wells! Here are just a couple landmarks to get you dreaming about running your rig in the desert.

Shell Reef.jpg

Shell Reef

This dry desert was once part of a large body of water! Drive up to the top of Shell Reef and find fossilized shells persisting on the ridge. The shells go as deep as 5 feet! You’ll also find loose oyster shells nearby.

Blowsand Hill.jpg

Blowsand Hill

Want to see how your off-roading vehicle performs in sand? Ride to Blowsand Hill and navigate a large sand dune supported by a wall of rock. You’ll find the largest grains of sand at the bottom while the finest grains have been blown to the top. This landmark is a popular spot even after the sun goes down.

Pumpkin Patch.jpg

Pumpkin Patch

An area with surprisingly round rocks formed many years ago, the rocks are concretions — sand and layers of earth forming around a center. Water and wind have shaped and formed the pumpkins over time.

Devil's Slide.jpg

Devil’s Slide

With both rock and sand nearby, this hill presents an exciting challenge for off-roaders! Covered in old mine shafts, Devil’s Slide was once a place where gold miners sought to make their fortune. Legend has it that you may see lights coming from the shafts after a desert rain.
